VC (Lego Mindstorms Vision Command) on XP/2000: Option A) reported by Frank Wang: To install on XP, do the following: 1) stick the cd in. Do not install yet - close anything that automatically runs. 2) In windows explorer, view the contents of the cd. (or use my computer, and 'explore' the cd) 3) right click on vision command's setup.exe. Select 'properties', then the Compability tab. Now click on The compatibility mode checkbox, and in the drop-down box, select 'Windows 98'. hit apply, then OK. Now double click on Setup. It will now install. Option B) You will need a Win98 system, preferably networked to the XP system, on which you have already installed VC. The network part is not necessary provided you have an easy way to copy the installed files from the Win98 system to XP. Essentially the steps were: 1. Install the Win2k version of LegoCam/QuikCam software directly from the VC CD. Run setup.exe directly from the appropriate sub-directory on the CD (Don't have the CD here or I'd give you more info.) You DO NOT use the default setup applciation here at all. 2. Attach the camera and install the drivers from the VC CD (I think this is automatic when you plug in the camera.) 3. Install VC on Win98. 4. Copy all the installed files and sub-directories from the Win98 system (E.g.: C:\Program Files\LEGO MINDSTORMS\Vision Command\*.* & C:\Program Files\Common Files\LEGO MINDSTORMS if RIS2.0 is also installed). 5. You now need to create some registry entries. Essentially these are copies of what you find on the Win98 system - fortunately, there are few. Search for 'vision command' in the Win98 registry. You can use RegEdit to export selected keys to a file and then import them on the XP system. This avoids errors and allows you to edit any path changes necessary. 6. Create a shortcut to "C:\Program Files\LEGO MINDSTORMS\Vision Command\VisionCommand.exe" and you are all set. I hope I didn't leave any important steps out. Ask if you get into trouble. /ted
